Amsterdam has a magical attraction to its visitors due to its unique half-moon canal-grid-system. In August 2010, Amsterdam’s 17th-century Canal Ring was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The 165 channels that still exist offer views, air and space. The location near the sea provides a pleasant cooling breeze in hot summers. The Jordaan Quarter Tour

Amsterdam, the Western Church (Westerkerk)

The Jordaan Quarter – private city tour – walking.

The protestant Westerkerk is located near the Anne Frank House, on the edge of the Jordaan district.

What did Anne Frank write about it? By the way, did you know that the famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn is buried in the Westerkerk?

The Westerkerk with its Westertoren is one of the most famous churches in the Netherlands. This is partly due to the Jordanian singer of the Amsterdam and Neapolitan song, Willy Alberti. Listen to Willy Alberti singing about the beauty of the Westertoren.

The Jordaan with the Westerkerk and the famous Westertoren, the Noorderkerk, the Noordermarkt, the Westermarkt and the Anne Frank House is perhaps the most famous and most beautiful district of Amsterdam.

The Jordaan is a real flower district. This is due to the many flowers that decorate the windows and bridges. Another special feature of the Jordaan is the many hidden courtyards. They tell the history of the wealthy Amsterdammers who cared for the less fortunate. They did this with free housing, among other things. Most were founded in the 17th century. And sometimes the regulations still apply. For example, in some courtyards only unmarried ladies are allowed to live.

The area around the famous Dam square with the Royal Palace and the Nieuwe Kerk, the Zeedijk (=Redlight district) with the Oude Kerk, and the Nieuwmarkt (China Town) with the De Waag building is perhaps one of the liveliest neighborhoods in Amsterdam.

Painters in Amsterdam Tour

Claude Monet, Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam, 1874

Painters of Amsterdam – private city tour – walking or cycling.

Many painters chose Amsterdam as a source of inspiration for their motives. Similarly, the French impressionist Claude Monet.

Question? How often was Claude Monet in the Netherlands and why? Because impressionists are addicted to light. And light is color. The sensation of light is intensified by the reflection of water. And the Netherlands is full of water. That combined with a nice atmosphere was the reason for Monet to say that he loved it here. He visited the Netherlands 3 times.
